                                FILM APPRECIATION PROGRAMME
                         on 8th November, 2003 from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm
 
 
The Film Appreciation  programme will be organised by Children’s Film Society, India in association with A.P.S.F.Tv & T.D.C., and  Children’s Film Society, AP  for the school children of twin cities on 8th Nov, 2003 from 9.00.. a.m, to  6.00 p.m. at Indira Priyadarshini Auditorium, Public Gardens on the occasion of  the 13th International Children’s Film Festival, 2003 to be held from 14th – 20th Nov, 2003 at Hyderabad.  The Children films to be screened during the programme is “CHIRAYU” Directed by Virendra Saini and few more children’s films.
 

"CHIRAYU"

A specially designed tribute for the courage displayed by the devastated children of Gujarat, after the earthquake.  Phoenix-like they rebuilt their lives, adapting themselves to their circumstances.  The films have a unique form, as six eminent directors have contributed individual segments, with an embellishment to their effort by a renowned animator.  It is a bouquet of eloquent individual stories – each designed to reach the children of Gujarat, and put a smile back on their faces.  The sutradhar (narrator) and his rapt audience traverse from tale-to-tale, ending in a song of optimism for the future

Synopsis

Eight-year old Vinu is irresistibly drawn to nature. He always dreams about his village and his grandfather. Unable to bear the strict routine at home Vinu runs away and sets out for his village. The people he meets and the adventures he encounters are unusual.

Director
Sivan began his illustrious career as a photo-journalist, contributing to magazines such as News Week, Life and Span. In 1953 he made India's first 16 mm film, Labour Week. His first feature film Swapnam (1972) won four State awards. His second, Yogum was also received well. Sivan has founded a film complex Sivan Studios, which also has an art gallery.

Film Appreciation Programme on 01st August, 2003

Children's Film Society, A.P., has a strong intention to bring world cinema to Andhra Pradesh particularly the Asian Children's films to Hyderabad. In this direction the 1st Asian Children's Film Festival was conducted by the society last year by focusing Asian Children's films, to continue further the Society is screening Asian Children's Films in its regular screening programmes and Film Appreciation Programmes. A French film screening is being planned by CFSAP.,in association with Alliance De Francaise for the students of twin cities at 9.15 a.m. on 01.08.2003 at Srinivasa Theatre, Narayanaguda, Hyderabad. Film to be screened at the venue is "KIRIKOU AND THE SORCERESS" (France/Colour/75 mins.) Directed by Michel Ocelot

 

Synopsis of Kirikou Et La Sorcied (Kirikou and The Sorceress) :
French/Colour/75mins - Directed by Michel ocelot

In a small village somewhere in Africa, a voice coming from the belly of a pregnant woman says "Mother, deliver me". And out comes a little boy. He cuts his umbilical cord and announces "I am Kirikou". He discover that his village is cursed by Karaba, a sorceress surrounded by obedient and ferocious fetishes. Kirikou has to save his village from the terrible curse.


Director
Michel Ocelot after studying art in France (the Beaux Art n Angers, the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Art Deoratifs) and the USA (California Institute of the Art), Michel Ocelot devoted his professional life to animated films. He has made 30 short films and series for television and cinema. He has won numerous awards at leading international festivals. Among these are Cesar in Paris, a Bafta in London. First prizes at Zagreb, Odense, Annecy, Kiev, Ottawa. In 1994. Ocelot was elected President of the ASTFA (International Animated Film Association) and was re-elected in 1997.

"SKATING BOARD TEAM OF DREAM"

The Asian Children's Film promotion is on by Children's Film Society, AP. The Chinese Film "SKATING BOARD TEAM OF DREAM" was shown at the Film Appreciation Programme of Children's Film Society, A.P., from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. at Government Mehboobia Girls High School, Abids. The child audience were enthralled with the impressive story line and the enacting of the child Artists.

The children expressed their feelings very boldly and frankly about various scenes filled with knowledge and comic during the appreciation programme in presence of the resource person Mr.M.Veda Kumar, Chairman,CFSAP., The hardship faced by the children while under going vigorous fitness training to learn "Skating" was attracted every child viewer. Mr.M.Veda Kumar explained various aspects to the children in regards to the Appreciation of a film by quoting difference scenes from the film appropriately.

The programme was also attended by Mrs.Pramoda, Head Mistress of Govt. Mehboobia Girls High School and Mr.N.Omdev, Convenor, CFSAP.,


SYNOPOSIS OF SKATING BOARD TEAM OF DREAM
(Chinese/1996/Colour/35 mm./90 mins. with EST - Directed by Xiao Feng)


Syposis
The story takes place in a modern metropolis in the 1990s, depicting a group of lively junior middle school students whose leader is Qi Meng. They love the skating board and slide to school and back home. They organise the Skating Board Dream Team themselves. However, they get into a lot of trouble. Under the guidance of their teachers, and physical coaches, the team plays a 'magical role' in the life of children, and this, in turn, teaches them to be confident and to struggle for their goals in studies and in their lives.

Director
Xiao Feng, 37, is a director in the Nanjing Film Studio. He graduated from the Art Department of the Nanjing Art Academy and then studied film direction. His work include TV play 'The Dragon Year' and 'Five Suns', and feature film 'Come On, Speak With Your Feet'.

The Film Appreciation Programme was organised by Children’s Film Society, AP., on 09th July, 2003 from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. at Government Boys High School, Kachiguda, Hyderabad. It has drawn rapt attention of the child participants. They have participated in the interaction by quoting the prominence of different scenes with suitable explanation, that shows the maturity of the participants and inquisitiveness to know about the appreciation of the film. Mr.M. Veda Kumar, Chairman, CFS,AP., who was the Resource Person of the programme interacted with the children and enlightened them about various facts in regards to the Film Appreciation Programme.

The Art and Craft of Film Appreciation should be seen not as an empty intellectual exercise, but an effort to understand & appreciate the basic concepts and techniques adopted in the making of any film

Since film viewing commences from the infancy, it may be proper to start learning Film Appreciation, from the very child hood. Realising this need cfsap conceived and executed Film Appreciation Program for the first time in India on the eve of ICFF ' 99 at Hyderabad.

This program has paved the way to launch uninterrupted training programs on FAP, in various batches, from January 2001 at the Indira Priyadarshani Auditorium, Hyderabad. The training period is for six months. To make the instruction on FAP, as a continuous ongoing process, the department of education has been requested to include FAP as part of the curriculum. The teachers along with their students are given training by cfsap.
