"Her
father now discusses things with her!
Sonali of
Pune came to Hyderabad for vacationing. She participated in the
Script-writing and Film-making workshops. She was chosen to play one of
the leading roles in the film The Sit-ups made by the children. But
her vacations ended and she had to go back to Pune.
However,
she returned to Hyderabad with her father for the 1st ACFF. Her father, a
reserved person, was reluctant to come and watch the festival movies.
Sonali almost forced him to. When the father saw a couple of films made in
other countries he was impressed. He was taken up by the locales and the
landscapes, which he loved.
On the day,
Sonali was still sleeping when her father came and woke her up. "Get ready
fast, otherwise we’ll be late" he said. Sonali was stunned. Her father had
got interested in the films. Not only this, she discovered he had begun to
talk and discuss things with her. A thing he had never done before.

As the 1st
Asian Children's Film Festival-Hyderabad reached its end minds began to ask
"What Next ? " Answers to the question "What after the 1st
ACFF" were sought from children and others at the Open Forum held on
Thursday, 20th November at Hari Hara Kala Bhavan. On
the panel of experts were renowned Film Director Mr. K.Viswanath, Film-maker
Mr. Thammareddi Bharadwaja, Film-producer and Critic Mr. Vasiraju Prakasam,
Film Academician, Writer & Director Mr. K.S.Ram Reddy and noted film
person Mr. CS Rao.

Acknowledging
that film festivals were a difficult proposition for the organisers in terms
of finances and personnel resources, Mr. K.Viswanath said that they should
be held every year as they expose children to films, heritage, tradition and
one’s samskara. Lamenting the state of children’s films in Telugu,
Mr. Thammareddi
Bharadwaja said that perhaps they are either not remunerative or the
government’s subsidy is insufficient. However, "If we can help making of
such films, we are obliged to do that," he emphasised,
Mr. Vasiraju Prakasa
complimented the organisers saying that this was the first of its kind. He
then went on to offer the following specific suggestions.
|
Special encouragement should be
given to child artists to make their future secure.
It must be made mandatory for
cinema theatres to screen children’s films at least thrice a week.
Though the subsidy for films
offered in the state is highest in the country there is an
inordinate delay in making its payment. The delay should be avoided.
Government must recognize the hard
and honest works put in by the Children’s Film Society-AP in getting
up this festival and allot them some land where they can build an
exclusive theatre for children’s films and carry on other
activities.

In the
question answer-session that followed there were several queries in
different forms in urging Mr. K.Viswanath to make a children’s film.
Skillfully avoiding giving a commitment, the renowned director said that
all his films are as good as children’s films. There was a suggestion
from a child that to increase the number and improve the quality of
children’s films we should increase the number of awards given to them.
When suggested that government should allow makers of children’s films
to get studios at a subsidized rate, Mr. Thammareddi Bharadwaja declared
that on his part he would give any of his three studies at half the
rates for makers of children’s films. There were suggestions like more
propagation of children’s films and using films for teaching subjects
like history. The renowned director, in turn, asked several children
what sort of children’s films they would like to be made. CS Rao felt
that separate TV channel for children would be good.
Mr. Om Dev,
President, Hyderabad Region of the CFS- AP who had earlier welcomed the
gathering also proposed a vote of thanks. |
